As an alternative to the solutions you proposed in Whiteboards with a kick:

I use a small digital camera (I use a Logitech Pocket Digital 130 for about $100. Make sure the camera is at least 1M Pixal and has a flash or very good light sensitivity.) and Whiteboard Photo. The advantage here is that I don't need to set things up in advance, it works with a chalk board, it's smaller, and I don't have to be running the meeting to get good images from the whiteboard. Finally, I get a digital camera out of the deal too. All told the complete setup cost me about $350.
