Wellness
and Professional Development Resources
April 4, 2006
Dear College of Engineering Non-Academic Staff:
As stated in the College of Engineering Strategic Plan, staff
are a critical part of the College community and contribute
significantly to the College's continued success. That
impact is greatly enhanced when staff are supported in professional
development activities that enrich their skills, assist in
attaining performance and professional goals, and ensure continued
success in their role. In addition, the College recognizes
the impact feeling healthy and sustained has on employees'
ability to contribute fully, and the role that wellness activities
can play in fostering overall health. Therefore, it
is a pleasure to announce the establishment of College of
Engineering Wellness and Professional Development Guidelines
for Non-academic Staff.
In summary:
Non-academic staff are eligible for up to 3 hours per week
of paid release time for professional development or wellness
activities. Included in the Guidelines document are
on-line resources to assist supervisors and employees with
the identification of professional development opportunities.
In support of wellness activity participation, on a two year
trial basis beginning April 1, 2006, departments will reimburse
employees for 80% of an employees' program, class, and/or
membership fee to a maximum of $125 per year. Supervisory
approval of paid release time and reimbursement requests for
both professional development and wellness activities will
be based on employee's current job performance, professional
development goals, and the business needs of the unit.
Please take a moment to review these materials and determine
how the guidelines support your goals. Your feedback
is welcome.
Sincerely,
Julie Delay
